It's important to know that this isn't another "What Should I do with My Life" guidebook. It's really about learning to live in the present moment and have your life's purpose come from within rather than from the expectations others have of us. I have returned to it on many occasions to re-read and remind myself of how to live in the now.

It's a good book. But I couldn't help feeling that the author doesn't really take women's hormones into account. It's not so easy for us ladies just to be non-reactive and say, "Is that so?" I felt like it would be great in a fairy tale world. And I am sure it is MUCH easier for men to place this into action than women who are on a pms overload every month. Unfortunately I feel disadvantaged to try to say "Is that so?" to every situation that pops up. "This to shall pass"

Acceptance, Enjoyment, Enthusiasm
The author's recommendations - acceptance, enjoyment, & enthusiasm - seem to diminish in that order in differentiating between someone who finds a new purpose in living and someone who is devoted to a selfish and materialistic lifestyle. Granted that "acceptance" is crucial at the gateway to a new inner self. But the latter two traits can be equally applicable to pursuing a materialistic lifestyle. Perhaps a more distinctive approach following acceptance would be "others-centeredness" and "personal satisfaction." Acceptance seems the hardest challenge in a materialistic society. Once we accept our existence, we must realize that our purpose in life on earth is to care for others. In our materialistic society, an equally difficult challenge is to shift our focus to the welfare of others. But it is through this effort that we realize enjoyment, satisfaction of purpose, and self-worth. And enthusiasm then comes naturally.Love and Immortality: Long Journey of My Heart 2008-09-05

Enlightening and Worth the Read
This book, at least at first, is not easy to get through. It's dry, written in a kind of monotone (which is also how Tolle speaks), and a bit dense in terms of language. But Tolle is, truly, an enlightened being, and for people who are open to what he has to say, his words ring true in very profound and helpful ways.
