The world's most powerful man has met his match! Michael Douglas is the widower President wooing environmental lobbyist Annette Bening in this romantic hit by Rob Reiner.Running Time: 115 min.System Requirements:Starring: Michael Douglas Anette Bening Martin Sheen Michael J. Fox Anna Deavere Smith Samantha Mathis Shawna Waldron and David Paymer. Directed By: Rob Reiner Running Time: 115 Min. Color. This film is presented in "Widescreen" format. It really bothered the Clintonistas that "a vast right-wing conspiracy" was making such a big thing of his adultery with a woman about half his age. So this movie (which is about a WIDOWED president's love affair with an unmarried woman just slightly younger than him) was seen by the Clintonista's as Bill's way to speak out against his critics through his surrogate (Michael Douglas' character). Of course the fact that Hillary was still alive and kicking kind of changed the circumstances a bit but then again I am a part of the vast middle-of-the-road-wishy-washy-conspiracy so you can't trust what I type.
Having said all that, with the exception of the self-pitying moralizing at the end, its a good light-weight but entertaining movie. You likely will enjoy it.
The out-take section is OK but they (intentionally I presume) left out the funniest one. Its a prank the crew played on Douglas from a scene that did not make it into the movie.
Catherine Zeta-Jones had not yet started her love fest with Douglas but she did have a small part in the film. She played a clerk at a 7-11 quick stop where Douglas and his chief of staff (traveling incognito to avoid the press) stop to get gas and a snack on their way to a political rally in Richmond Virgina.
Wearing a name-tag that clearly says "Monica" Zeta-Jones asks Douglas if he would like a "Big Gulp!!"
veryfunni!!

Good but something's missing.
The American President directed Rob Reiner is a very interesting look at a fictional president and the woman he falls in love with during his reign in the White House. Michael Douglas and Annette Bening are wonderful actors and their chemistry is darn near flawless. I like this film but the many times I have watched it, I feel there's something missing and I am not sure what it is, maybe the storyline could've been a little meatier. Give this clean cut film a try. 2008-09-28

If He Could Turn Back Time
OK its been a lot of years since the movie came out. The script was supposed to be apolitical and the movie would have been just another light-hearted romantic comedy ala Clark Gable- Claudette Colbert if it hadn't of been for the antics of then President Bill Clinton.

Love this movie
I do prefer the plastic cases - you know, the ones that are plastic on both sides. This one has the cardboard front. 2008-08-17
