Editorial Review:
The Unauthorized Star Wars Story is everything you'd expect an unauthorized video to be: fun and full of gossip. In 1977, Star Wars took the world by surprise and this documentary traces its history (Lucas had trouble obtaining funding for "the big sci-fi-space-adventure-Flash-Gordon thing," as it was called), interviews the actors, and looks at the cultish fandom that sprang up around the movie (Japanese fans traveled to the U.S. on Star Wars tours merely to see the film before it opened in their own country). The dish is plentiful and entertaining: Carrie Fisher hated Princess Leia's hair, pranksters would paste pictures of naked women in R2D2's costume, the actors thought the film was "rubbish" as they were making it. The many interview clips include discussions with Charles Lippincott, former vice president of Lucasfilm; Anthony Daniels, who played C3PO; Harrison Ford; Peter Mayhew, who played Chewbacca; Kenny Baker, better known as R2D2; Carrie Fisher; Mark Hamill; Rick McCallum, producer of The Phantom Menace; and George Lucas. Occasionally the documentary gives a bit too much information (do we really need to see George Lucas's hometown and listen to his neighbors?), but no matter--it doesn't detract from the overall voyeuristic nature of the video. The later films are touched on (Samuel L. Jackson is interviewed), but the concentration is on the original, Episode IV: A New Hope. Whether you're a casual fan or one of the devoted who wait all night in line for tickets to the next installment, The Unauthorized Star Wars Story is an interesting, fun, behind-the-scenes look at one the best-loved films of all time. --Jenny Brown

Released around the time Episode I hit the theatres...
I don't like this movie one bit and was sorely disappointed when I first saw it. Originally aired on the Sci-Fi Channel around the release date for Episode I, all it shows is stupid, moronic SW freaks running around and acting stupid, while talking about the films. That's it. Nothing more. I thought it would be more of a BTS (Behind the scenes) look at the universe of George Lucas's classic space opera, but instead it's just too teasing to watch. Don't waste your time or money. 2004-08-05

STAR WARS:SECRETS OF A GALAXY FAR,FAR AWAY...
I really liked this video. I liked the part when Mark Hamill does an impression of Harrison Ford while talking about shooting the last scene in Star Wars. Jeremy Bulloch talkes about shooting a scene in The Empire Strikes Back when he said the wrong line:"Put Captain Cargo in the Solo hold!" instead of "Put Captain Solo in the Cargo Hold!" Mark Hamill mentions that Lucas once asked him to play an Obi-Wan type character in an Episode VII passing on the excalibur down to the next generation and that he said that it would come out arouind 2011. David Prowse mentions that he may don the Darth Vader costume again in Episode III. Nevetheless this is a fascinating video that also tells what went on during the making of Star Wars. 2000-08-14

Bantha Poodoo!
The problem with this video is that it's just loose interviews strung together without any thought behind it. The info is nothing new, and they don't show any cool behind the scenes stuff. Hard to believe, but they actually found a way to make Star Wars boring. 2000-07-12

Save your money or buy a book
It was cool seeing how Chewbacca looks like but thats about it.It really stinks. 2000-02-01

unauthorised star wars story
Unfortunately I bought a copy of this tape last November hoping for that for an un-authorised version something new and different,I am a SW fan but found the interview's repititious and overall, not of much interest as a hole,I also have the original 1977 The Making of Star Wars, far more entertaining though I understand most-likely un-obtainable now,in my opnion rent the Unauthorised version first before buying and decide for yourself. Just because your'e a fan does'nt mean you have to like everything put out there connected to the Star Wars franchise, it is boring and a disappointment, buyer's beware in future I will view/rent first before purchasing! 1999-12-14
