Editorial Review:
This PIXMA iP4500 is a stylish machine that features a 5-color ink system and a 4,608-nozzle print head that ejects precision droplets as small as 1-picoliter. Amazing 9600 x 2400 color dpi resolution and life-life color values print a superb borderless 4" x 6" photo in only about 21 seconds along with bold, laser-quality text. The two paper trays let you store both photo paper and plain paper, so you're always print-ready. Up to 24 ppm Color Print Speed as fast as 2.5 seconds per page Print Resolution - Up to 600 x 600 dpi Black, 9600 x 2400 dpi Color Paper Sizes - Credit Card (2.13x3.39), 4x6, 4x8, 5x7, 8x10, Letter, Legal, U.S. #10 Envelopes, and Photo Stickers Noise Level - Approx. 34.5 dB in the best quality mode OS Compatibility - Windows Vista, Windows XP/2000 and Mac OS X v.10.2.8 to 10.4.x6 Dimensions - Length 17.5 x Width 11.9 x Height 6.3 Weight - 15.2 pounds

A disappointment for USA users is this: although European versions of this printer include a CD tray and can print directly onto CD/DVD's, as confirmed by Canon tech support, a legal dispute in the US led Canon to disable (but not remove) this feature. For the adventurous, instructions for re-enabling the feature and obtaining the CD tray can be found on the Internet.

pixma ip4500 printer
This printer is a class act. I spent as much two years ago on a well known brand name printer which couldn't compare to this one. I have had very good luck with ALL Canon products that I have purchased and am happy to recommend this machine. 2008-07-03

Fantastic printer
This printer has met all of my needs. I just love it. Although I don't print a lot of pictures, I am printing recipe cards with a photo on the reverse, using glossy photo paper with a matte back (recipe on the matte side, pnoto on the glossy) Both the text and the photo are outstanding. I love the way that the paper can feed either from the rear (so it doesn't have to roll around a platen (or whatever it is called), and it has a large paper tray in the front, out of sight. I can "close up" the printer when not in use, protecting it from dust. And, it prints on both sides (duplex). That's a wonderful step up for me and it works very well. I also love the way it handles odd-sized envelopes and cards. It's one great printer for the money. I haven't discovered any "cons" yet. I have been able to print (and print well) everything I have thrown at it so far. I did a lot of research before settling on this printer, and I am not disappointed with my choice. 2008-07-01

Printer with a heart
This inkjet printer is a workhorse. I have had no problems with it. The color is true and the speed of printing is good. Price is good. I print on fabric (I'm a quilter) and this little guy works great for that. 2008-06-27

Canon iP4500 -- decent printer
Other reviewers have covered the essentials of this unit. So far my personal experience matches the others regarding speed and print quality. Interesting features that weren't mentioned elsewhere include built-in image enhancement, pigment-based black ink for text printing, auto-power-off, and auto-power-on when a print job is started.

Great Printer!
What can I say? I love this printer. I bought it especially to print photos. My previous printer was an HP Photosmart 1215 that I bought 5 or 6 years ago, which I thought did a good job. I realize that technology has advanced a lot since then, but there is no comparison between this printer and the HP. I have Windows XP and set up was a breeze. I always use Konica/Minolta photo paper, and the photos are crisp, sharp, with beautiful colors. Speed is amazing as well. Ink is less expensive than the HP also. I do not use this printer for everyday text (I still use my HP for that), so I cannot really review that aspect of the printer, but I just do not think you can beat this printer for the price of it and the quality that I have seen with printing my photos. 2008-06-25
