Customer Reviews:

Mainly a review of the 760 bluetooth
I received the 760 on July 2, 2008 and my cell phone, Samsung u740, initially did not connect. I updated the 760 software (download from Garmin) and low and behold it connected. Whew! First hurdle over. I then tried the bluetooth with the cell phone just sitting on the table maybe a few feet away and it had a lot of static. I then tried it in the car and it seemed to work much better even further from the phone. While it can sound a little distant, it is certainly intelligible. And the sound is good enough (don't turn it past 90% volume or it will break up too much). The fm worked though I don't like it as much as the internal speaker. Well, that's the limit of my expertise, or at least what I feel even slightly able to judge about this GPS.

Only time will tell if I even keep it. Not the units fault. I really just need a hands-free unit for the car and I'm a little worried it is going to cause someone to break into my car and steal it. Or, I'll wind up leaving it hidden and never use it. At least now I can see the value of buying a car with a unit already built in.

Nuvi 760
Great Product. Used a 4GB HDSD card for music in an 8 hour trip to Orlando. Nuvi was accurate with directions to attractions, addresses to friends, however, a bit outdated on a few of the ATM locations. In all, a very versatile product that can play music, audio books, or used as a mini album to view pictures.

Garmin nuvi 760 is great
The Garmin nuvi 760 is truly idiot-proof. The touch screen is easy to use. The imagery is amazingly useful. The color contrasts work in most lighting. Having now used the device about 10 times, the navigational system only failed once. For some reason, the system could identify the place (restaurant and address) but couldn't give directions. But, when I put in the address, it found the restaurant right away. I like this Garmin nuvi 760 way better than what is in the Prius (our other car).

Navigation (fine) Cell Phone Bluetooth usage (poor)
This is a bit daunting to set up and access and the features, but worth the trouble. Sadly, like so many products today there is no manual included in the box. It must be downloaded from the Garmin Web site and comes to 60 pages. It's a must have by the way.

The Bluetooth sound quality with my Verizon LG 8300 cell phone was absolutely useless for me. I stress "for me" because it may work better for others. I am in Los Angeles. If you can and it's important to you, try that before you buy.

Downloading and installing a 2009 newer map, while free, took about six hours with a relatively high speed connection. However, I found nothing wrong with the older map that had been factory installed.

A law in California is still pending to allow GPS units to be installed on the windshield but looks assured of passing in the near future. Meanwhile, you must find a way to place it on the dash. A mounting disk is included that may be glued there but contains a warning that it may disfigure that part of the dash if removal is attempted.

Nuvi 760 Review
I have been using Garmin GPS units for over ten years now; my first unit was a GPS12. I have been very happy with every unit I have owned so far. The Nuvi 760 is no exception.

Prior to the Nuvi 760 I used a GPSMAP 60Cx for all of my on and off road requirements. The 60Cx works well for vehicle navigation with the City Navigator maps loaded. The main disadvantage are that the rocker control is sometimes awkward and the on-screen keyboard can be frustrating to use as a result. Also, the lack of voice prompts made it somewhat useless without a navigator. The Nuvi 760 resolved all of those issues.

I have only been using the Nuvi 760 for a few weeks now but am generally happy with the performance. There are only a few things I would like to see done differently/better. I would like the ability to control the range for searching for services (i.e. only look for gas within one mile etc.) and sorting (i.e. distance, alphabetical, etc.). I would also like layering control for the maps (i.e. ability to layer topographic map information and City Navigator maps) rather than one or the other (this issue is not isolated to the 760). As a minor improvement it would be nice to have better controls for the media player and the ability to delete media files from the unit.

Overall I am happy with the unit and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good on-road GPS.
