And I thought the Litter Robot was the best thing ever... I was wrong!
I've had cats all my life, and I finally realized that it's not the litter box itself that was causing me woes -- it was that horrible stinky, cemented clay litter. For 2 years I was a relatively happy owner of a Litter Robot (a fabulous advance in litter boxes if anyone who hasn't had luck with the Breeze wants to buy it!). But with hardwood floors and a tiny condo, I was constantly cleaning up litter my two cats would scatter as took take giant leaps out of the box!

Daily sweeping and Roomba runs couldn't even keep up, and I was embarrassed to have people over unannounced, or with their shoes off. Even I never walked barefoot in here, it was gross. And with an increasingly diabetic 16 year old cat, the clay litter clumps were becoming too much for the Robot to handle too.

So after a month+ of the Breeze system, my life has completely changed. I can walk barefoot and no litter box smell! My cats are surprisingly not very "stinky" poopers, even though there is no odor killing built into the litter itself. And it does a good job of drying it out if you let it sit for several hours before scooping.

The pads last for about 4 days with two cats, but I did have an overflow mishap when I went out of town for 3.5 days (even with an extra litter box). Still not sure why they decided to pee twice as much while I was gone, but I experimented with a fix for the next time I'm out of town... I removed the plastic liner from one of the pads and laid it on top of another one (with the liner still attached). That lasted a full week with no problems, and it still fit within the tray area and slid out easily when both were at max capacity. I wouldn't recommend this for every week use, since the top pad kind of fell apart without the liner, but it will solve the overflow issue if you know you can't check the pad for 3 or 4 days (yes, I usually have someone watch them...but I sometimes I can't round up volunteers!).

Being pretty Green, I have some reservations about the plastic liners going into the trash, but I figure I am using less garbage bags full of litter clumps in the end. Plus the pellets don't stick to the poop, and one bag really does last a full month (if not longer).

Overall, this is the best thing to happen to me and my cats. I buy the litter 3-pack and liner 5-packs using Amazon's "subscription" service, and save a lot of money on shipping. Plus I always have everything I need to keep the box in good shape.

If you're sick of clay litter, and have tried all the other automatic boxes with little luck, give this a try!

Finally a great solution!!!
I have been using this system for a month and love it. My two cats took to the box immediately. I just replaced their old litter box with the Breeze system one day and they didn't have any problems making the transition. It is wonderful because the pellets are not tracked all over my carpet and they don't create any dust. The pellets stay cleaner and odor free much longer than traditional litter. I only have one litter box in my house for the two cats, so we change the bottom pad every 4 days. I also sprinkle a little baking powder into the pellets to keep it fresh. The cats poop on top of the litter and do not cover it up, because of the size of the pellets, but I don't find this to be a problem. I just clean it once or twice a day. I hope Tidy Cat never discontinues this product!

Worked great for pee & hard poo, BUT could not stand the poop smell
Back when I used the breeze cat system, there were 4 cats in the apartment (2 are my cats, and the other 2 were my brother's cats that I was temporarily taking care for him). I had the breeze next to the original litter box for 3 days and none of the cats used it. They all went on top of the pellets to check it out but did not pee/poop in there. One of the cats tried to eat a pellet and I took it away from him. I *think* none of them actually ate it.

On the 4th day, I took the original litter box away, and then they all started using the breeze. There were no "accidents" in the apartment and I did not find pee or poop on the floor or carpet. I think the fact that I placed some of the pellets with their original litter really helped them get accustomed to the product (and also since the breeze system was sitting there for 3 days, they were at least familiarized with it).

The pad that sucked up the pee worked really well. I experimented to figure out the right time to change the pad for the 4 cats. It turned out to be every 3 days. As for hard poop, I was ok with it staying at the top of the system and would pick it up with a plastic bag and throw it out (very easy).

The problem is with the runny/watery poop which will go all over the pellets and is tougher and takes longer to clean. A lot of the pellets ended up getting thrown out once the watery poop touched them. Also, this system does not do anything to help minimize the poop smell, which is the main complaint for my boyfriend regarding this system. In the end, we did not keep the breeze because the smell was too horrible. Even if you clean it up immediately after the cat pooped, the smell was still there.

We went back to the original litter box. I am going to keep my eye on this product to see if tidy cats come out with better pellets that will do something about poop smell. If that time ever comes, I would buy it because I know my cats will use this system & it did wonders for the pee... now if only the poop situation works out!

Tidy Cats Breeze system..
I've had this for a few weeks, and I'm really happy with it.

The hugest advantage to this system is the urine is separated from the 'litter' and odor is greatly reduced. The litter consist of pellets similar in shape/size to the wood-based natural litters, but they are of a hard clay, which doesn't break down with moisture, and they keep their shape. Thus, the urine drains straight down through a grid to the pad (in its own slide-out drawer), and the poo stays on top to be scooped away.

The pee will not ferment with the characteristic stench, and you don't have to deal with clumping litter which doesn't really clump, and is just plain stinky and messy to scoop up.

The proprietary 'pee' pads are kind of like a giant maxi pad, and absorb a lot of liquid. Also, the bottom side of the pad is plastic, and the pad fits into the tray in a way that the plastic is upturned to keep the tray itself dry. Maintenance consists of merely taking the drawer out to the trash, and sliding the pad out, putting in a new one, and sliding the drawer back into the bottom of the box.

The litter itself are hard pellets, which hardly get tracked, and it is 100% dustless. A pellet or two stick to paws, but are easily picked up and tossed back into the box. Scooping is easy, and if the poo is dry, you can kind of shake it around in the scoop to knock off some of the pellets, then throw it in the trash instead of wasting water with a toilet flush.

It takes mere seconds to maintain the box vs. 10 minutes of scooping and scraping soggy clumping litter which doesn't really clump, but falls apart.

When it's time to change the litter (once a month), it just pours into the trash, no scraping the soggy wet concrete of old.

Some say you get a 'poo' smell, since kitties can't bury it quite like they did with the old type of litter, but I'll take that over the overpowering stench of fermented urine any day. And, the smell goes away quite shortly, just like human smell in the bathroom. Note that you should just use one bag of the pellets in the box, the litter won't be as deep. I just give the box a quick shake daily to even it back out.

Cat adaption to the new box: This won't work for everyone, but this is what I did: I set up the new Breeze system next to the old box (which was fairly gross, as I let it get bad) to see what would happen. I placed a clump of the old litter into the new box to let him know it was 'his.' My 9 year old fellow was pretty much using the new box right away (probably out of curiousity more than anything). After 3 days or so, I removed the old box and inserted it directly into the garbage, never to be dealt with again. No problems, 100% compliance on Max's part.

If Tidy Cats came out with a fully hooded version of the box, it would be great for the folks who have standing pee-ers, but my fellow doesn't do that, so I'm lucky.

Finally, some say the pellets and pads are expensive, but I estimate the cost as about equal to the old style of box over the long run - and the convenience and ease of maintenance should erase any other doubt.

Also, this system has the potential of keeping tons of conventional clay litter out of landfills.

Highly recommended.

Great System, Intro package needs more pellets
This system is working very, very well for me and my cats. It took them quite a long time to transition, but now they are happy both urinating and defecating in two breeze-style boxes (I bought one breeze and fashioned another similar system).

Unfortunately, this starter package should contain at least two bags of breeze pellets. It contains only one. My cats have adjusted to the smaller amount of litter in the Breeze just fine, but you need at least another full bag of Breeze litter to slowly mix in with your old litter to communicate with your cats what this new box is for. I ordered extra pellets at the same time I ordered the starter system, but the pellets didn't come till later; and the cats didn't use the Breeze until I'd mixed more than just "a cup or so" (what the transition instructions say) with their old box. I'm patient but don't like a dirty box, so I kept cleaning my old box, and slowly added more and more Breeze litter to it. My cats completely transitioned over a period of a month or so. I took my time and was trying to use up old litter during the transition, but it took me about 2.5 bags of breeze pellets (including the one full bag that comes with the starter kit went into the breeze) to do my complete transition.

I would have rated this litter box system 5/5 stars, but the absence of an extra bag of pellets in the kit knocks the system down to 4/5 stars.

To those of you who are worried that your cats will only use the Breeze to urinate and not to defecate; just urinating takes quite a bit of pressure off of the old boxes. At just a little over $1 a pee pad, which lasts about 5 or 6 days with my two cats, it's a cheap and easy way to dispose of cat urine, even if you still have to scoop an old box with feces and sometimes a little bit of urine.

I recommend this system to anyone who
1) can't carry regular litter (because it's too heavy)
2) needs a dust-free system for an asthmatic cat (why I switched)
3) doesn't like scooping urine pellets, but doesn't mind scooping feces
4) dislikes litter tracking

I wouldn't recommend this to people happy with clumping clay litter, and it isn't a solution for people who love cats but can't stand litter boxes. It's still a litter box that must be scooped, albeit a very clean and easy to use litter box. I would recommend this to anyone who does not use or does not want to use clumping clay litter (dust, tracking, environmental impact, whatever) as I think it's the best alternative.

I switched from Yesterday News, which was a good alternative to clay clumping litter, as long as you don't mind the inevitable consequences (stale urine) of a non-clumping litter. The Breeze avoids the stale urine problem. Yes, the tray smells a bit when you slide it out, but I can't smell the urine at all when the tray is assembled (unless a cat has urinated in the last 5 minutes), and you don't have the unpleasant task of removing stale urine soaked non-clumping litter.
