Editorial Review:
What do you do to keep yourself healthy? Norton Internet Security Suite 2008 is designed to keep your PC healthy. Every time you visit the Internet, there are hackers, predators, and weapons ready to usurp your identity and destroy your computer. It can happen quickly and silently. Some viruses present on the web can have delay mechanisms that can halt use of your computer days, weeks, months ahead. Norton Internet Security Suite 2008 scans your PC for potential pathogens, points them out, and helps eliminate them. It provides regular updates to your system to eliminate any new viruses. It also provides a strong firewall acting as a shield while you're online. Control spam with built-in filter technologies. Enjoy the Internet and safeguard your PC and peripherals with the power and reliability that Symantec is famous for. Be safe when your PC has Norton Internet Security Suite 2008 installed. Intrusion Prevention automatically shields newly discovered security vulnerabilities Network protection configures security settings when logged on at home, or on public networks Full System Scan performs a deep scan to remove existing viruses, spyware and other threats Norton Protection Center provides a central place to easily check overall security settings Includes protection updates and new product features as available throughout the renewable service period Windows Vista friendly

It appears to be a very robust program and runs more "behind the scenes" than 2003 with less pop ups requiring a response. It also has some features such as a password vault that may be of interest to some, though personally, I just wanted a firewall and was too lazy too uninstall the prior Norton and switch to another product. Overall an adequate product, but don't try to put it on your older computer. Also, Zone Alarm got better reviews in Consumersearch.com and may be a better value.

I am currently relying on Frisk F-Prot for virus protection, so I no longer need Norton Antivirus (part of the NIS package). However, I am unable to uninstall it. If I disable the executable file (e.g. by changing the extension to NULL), it freezes all my Microsoft Office applications like Word, because they still request virus scans from Norton Antivirus.
In 2004, a Live Update from Symantec apparently caused Norton Internet Security to take over a good 99 percent of my computer's CPU while bringing Internet performance to a crawl. Symantec's technical support people ignored more than a dozen E-mails, and a fax to the tech support manager also went unanswered--thus suggesting that Symantec's contempt for its customers comes from at least middle management if not higher.
On the basis of my experience with this product, Symantec is permanently disqualified from selling me anything whatsoever in the future. Its contempt for its customers is quite obvious from its marketing practices (cutting off your ability to buy virus updates for older versions), not having any meaningful technical support, and peddling products that cannot even be uninstalled.

works well even with Vista 64
like the product....wish it was a little more editable but it is effective and it works well with other programs unlike some of the other major players and works well on a Vista 64 based system. 2008-09-05

Buy only if your computer was purchased the same year as the Norton version
I agree with the other reviews that this version is a resource hog. I have a Toshiba Satellite purchased in 2003 and I had no problems with Norton 2003 even though others complained that IT was a resource hog. I suspect what is going on here, much with Operating Systems and programs in general is that computers have gotten so much faster, programmers no longer bother to write "tight" code. Having said that, I see no real downside in actual use, the computer runs everything pretty much as fast as it did. It just takes about five minutes to boot up instead of one.

Incredibly Slow
Norton Internet Security 2008 is a resource hog. It slowed my 2-year-old computer with 1GB RAM so much that it became unusable. My only option was to remove it. You cannot choose to install just part of it (like Antivirus) -- so I will return it to Amazon for a refund. I've used Norton products for more than 10 years, but I'll find an alternative for 2008. Don't buy it. 2007-12-07

Horrible Software, Horrible Experience, Try Anything Else
First, please be aware that I have been a loyal Norton customer for over a decade. Unfortunately, I will not be able to continue to use their products. This software will not even install on my Windows XP SP2 DELL computer. From contacting their tech support, I still have all five chat incident account numbers, and after five times (and more than that many hours--can you believe it), Symantec Tech Support cannot even help me to actually get the product to install. The software is bad, the tech support is bad, try something else! I am a very unhappy customer and Symantec owes me for QA'ing their faulty product. 2007-11-14

Poor quality and no technical support
This is based on my experience with Norton Internet Security 2002. Symantec's products are of low quality, and technical support might as well be nonexistent. Furthermore, Symantec has a nice trick to force you to buy new versions of NIS every few years; it cuts off your ability to download virus updates for older ones.
