TurboTax Deluxe Federal + efile 2009

I have used this software for several years! The 2009 software worked fine. First time that I have used the e-file feature. Worked Fine!

Turbo Tax has two modes. One rather automatic, but does not allow you to enter some data. The manual mode does allow you to enter most data. It is a modular approach which seems to be a good design. For US Citizens living in the 50 states it works well for the Federal form. I have used states before but not this time. I was living in a category called Foreign. The biggest problem is you can not efile unless you are in one of the 50 states. This may be a Federal law or a oversight of Turbo Tax.

Overall, Turbo Tax is a good product. I used the home and business version for 2009. For me there where forms missing. I used to do all my taxes on my own with software on the Mac, then the laws got so cumbersome, so I used good CPA's. I even won a major battle with the IRS using a very knowledgeable CPA.

I was pretty satisfied with the product. It also rates you chance of audit. I had real business expenses but it raised my chance of audit and did not change the refund amount. So I deleted real deductions, the refund stayed the same just so I don't have to deal with the IRS.

I have been using TurbaTax for preparing simple 1040 return since 2001 after I retired. Increasingly, I found the product bacame less user freindly and less transparent for a simple return.

It was cheaper than any local retailer or other internet source. Since the product is the same no matter where you buy it, this was a no-brainer to buy it here. Even though I took the free shipping option, it still got here in a short time.

I've used this every year and I needed the Federal without the state (No FL income tax). Amazon was the only place I could get that version so as a result it was the cheapest place to get it. Amazon always ships fast and has the lowest prices.
I was tempted to get a different software app since TT is one of the highest cost tax packages. However, I'm used to it and it is quick. We own a rental and they say to use the premium rather than the deluxe version, but the deluxe seems to provide adequate info for me.
