I've had one of these off and on for about 10 years now, and I definitely have to say that their production quality has slipped in recent years.
The one I owned in the late 90's was much more sturdy - and made in the USA. I suspect this came from China.
For the price, you can't really argue. No whet stone or diamond can compare to the precision of a Lansky.

The Lansky system is very easy to use. The instructions are straight forward and there's an instructional video on the Lansky website (http://www.lanskysharpeners.com/video.php) too.
The first knife I sharpened was old and abused, so I started out with the extra-course stone and worked my way up. I ended up with a decently sharp blade after my first attempt.
The second knife I tried was newer and only recently dull. I started out with the Medium stone and worked through to the Ultra-fine. This produced a blade sharp enough to shave arm hairs without too much effort.
- Kit includes : knife clamp; 5 sharpening hones (XC; C; M; F; UF); oil
- For straight-edge knives
- 1 year - materials & workmanship

Cheaper than a professional.
I use this in the kitchen. It does the best job you can get without sending your cutlery to a professional.

Lansky sharpener
Item is wonderful. Great to sharpen knives of all sorts...only thing I fould it is a little difficult to work with at first. 2008-12-24

Lansky Deluxe 5-Hone Sharpening System
The system is extremely poor quality. The braces are made of soft aluminum and no matter how tight you screw the screws it is impossible to hold the blade of any knife. It is impossible to control sharpening angle for the blade. The whole system just doesn't make sense. I just had to return the item for full refund. Then I went to Lowe's and bought really good sharpening system for half of the price. 2008-10-30

Great sharpening system
I purchased this item about two weeks ago and have sharpened a couple of my pocket knives with it so far.
