Editorial Review:
The Petzl Elios Helmet provides an excellent combination of lightweight and durability for all types of climbing. The polycarbonate shell and impact-absorbing form liner make this a great choice when you need a helmet that lasts but don't want to feel like you strapped a brick to your head. This well-ventilated helmet has clips for a headlamp and can be used for everything from sport to alpine climbing. Adjust the Elios to fit over a stocking hat with a single wheel in the back.

Obviously, the real job of a helmet is to protect your head, and I was fortunate not to end up being able to test that part. So, the real-life test for a helmet is whether it will be comfortable enough that you'll actually have it on when you need it. This helmet performed great on that task, and I am glad to have it in my pack.

Great, light, inexpensive helmet
I used this helmet for the first time this weekend, on a class 3/4 ascent of the NW ridge of Mt. Lindsey, a 14er in Colorado. The best thing I can say about it is that I wore it easily and never knew it was there. Due to the wind/rain, I wore it over a warm hat - it easily adjusted to fit comfortably, and I wore it for three hours without a second thought until I was out of the rocky portion and back on the trail. It never shifted, slid, otherwise reminded me I was wearing it at all.
