Editorial Review:
The largest viewing area of any Ant FarmĀ® habitat! Perfect for classrooms!

I had ordered the ants ahead of time because this is not our first "ant rodeo," so if you're thinking about ordering one, order your ants so they'll arrive about the same time! Then you're ready to go.
This is a big ant farm and plenty big for anyone. Realize that the ants will only live for a couple of months, max, without a queen. You don't want a queen, though, because they lay hundreds of eggs a day and the farm would burst at the seams. Plus, they won't mail queens, so get over it. Just enjoy your ants and order some more when they finally poop out. They will work 24/7 and you'll enjoy their quirky tunneling decisions.
I'd like to have a gel farm but I can only find tiny ones.
Enjoy!!!

For little boys or big boys!
I gave this ant farm to my husband for part of his Christmas. It also included a 52" Panasonic flat screen TV. Christmas afternoon, the TV sat in the box, but the ant farm was up and running with him sitting in front of it with a magnifying glass!!

fun with ants
My little granddaughters love watching the ants every day. I am so glad I gave this toy to them, just like I gave one to their dad when he was a boy. He is now an entomologist. 2010-02-11

Ants Rock!
This ant farm is really great. But, FYI, it's really not a farm. It's really just a way to watch ants moving soil/sand. Once you get the ant farm set up, order the ants. Then, when the ants come in the mail, put them in the ant farm. After about a day, they start their work, making tunnels. It's fun to watch them talk to each other with their antenna. The ant in charge says, "Hey, there's a big bolder in the middle of the tunnel blocking our escape route. Go move it, you lackey." Then the other ant says, "Will do sir", with no questions asked. Ants are very obedient. They remind me of the Chinese. They don't seem to get tired, although I have observed them sleeping on occasion. 2009-05-30

giant ant farm
nice ant farm. my advise is -After filling the ant farm with the "sand" provided, that you be very careful about cleaning it off of the outside-it will easily scratch the outside of the clear plastic window. 2009-05-20

Pretty cool
I'll pretty much second what everybody else said before me: The wait for the ants is the most agonizing part of the process. It's fun to watch the ants and a good conversation piece. It takes a little getting used to the feeding and watering if you haven't had any pets in a while, or ever. Overall, I am very glad that I got it and will probably order more ants when my first crew dies off. 2009-04-15
