Raccoon City has been overrun by the living dead, and you are one of only a dwindling handful of survivors. You must escape the doomed city or become part of a ghastly new food chain: one with you at the bottom.
You play as either Leon Kennedy, a rookie cop who's having a really bad first day on the job, or Claire Redfield, sister of one of the stars of the original Resident Evil. Leon and Claire's meeting is depicted in a visually stunning, B-movie cutscene. They're quickly separated, but occasionally meet up throughout the game.
Right after the gruesome intro, you're dumped into the thick of things and have to dash through the devastated city streets, fleeing from one horde of zombies after another. As you make your way to a supposed refuge--the city police station--you find evidence that the citizenry fought bravely against the undead menace--and lost. Smashed barricades, abandoned police cars, boarded-up stores, dismembered bodies, and hundreds of expended bullet shell casings are all-too-common sights. Once you reach the station, you discover the remains of a siege. The defenders' desperate final hours are recorded in a fragmented journal. Its pages detail a possible escape route through an underground passage. Did the cops make it out? The alarming number of zombies wearing tattered police uniforms may be a clue.
Resident Evil 2 keeps the terrific puzzles and action of the original while vastly improving cinematic qualities such as dialogue, camera angles, cutscenes, atmosphere, and location design. An instant survival horror classic, Resident Evil 2 has it all. --John Cocking
Pros:
- Zombies
- Cheesy horror movie action
- Real sense of dread--actually makes you jump with fright
- 2 characters, 2 different angles on the story
- Clumsy save-game interface
- Backtracking for puzzles

i found the game to be challenging, as well as entertaining. i was introduced to a different kind of gameplay, and i loved it. as the fixed camera angles change, mid-room, to show a different perspective of your third-person controlled character, the suspense is thickened. beware unexpected creatures, lurking in nooks and crannies, just to get a bite of you. be prepared to use your wits, logic, and puzzle-solving skills, perhaps more than your traditional gaming skills. another point of interest (for me, at least), with Resident Evil 2, is the storyline. if you are buying this game, you may have played RE 1 at some point, and may have an idea of what i am refering to. the RE franchise is not your run-of-the-mill zombie plot, and with each new addition comes more plot twists, foreshadowing, and complexity to an already, riviting, storyline.
not only was i pleased with the atmosphere that the game created, and the gameplay to which i have become fond, but i find the replay value of Resident Evil 2 to be outstanding. one can initially play one of two characters in an 'A' scenario, and after having completed one, unlock a 'B' scenario for the other of the two characters. not to give it away, or anything, but you just may find yourself playing another scenario or two with characters, not initially playable.
get this game. don't think, just do it.

This is one of the most "creepy" experiences you will ever have. This game is just plain wonderful. And the two story lines are both great. The one, Claire helping the young child Sherry out of trouble, fleeing via the sewers. The other, Leon, discovering love, teaming up with Ada to get out of Raccoon City. These sad storylines are perfect to the gloomy atmosphere of the game.
The game is a complete success in creating the "feeling" of cloisterphobia, as any Survival Horror should. You are trapped in a small area... zombies everywhere outside... invasion of zombies... you gotta fight! Its great. Trust me folks, if you love good ol horror flicks like Night of the Living Dead, you'll love the feel of this game. Perfect stuff to getcha into the Halloween spirit!
